Choose love.

As we begin another weekly routine in our lives, I can’t help but still feel very emotional over the tragedy in CT. My heart weeps for the babies, the parents & families, the teachers, the survivors, and the police/first responders (who shielded everyone from seeing the carnage yet have to take on that as a vision that will last a lifetime). I light candles and pray endlessly for all of them and humanity.

In such a desperate time, we often get swallowed by fear but as hard as it is, in honor of those lost, we must give our hearts to living a full life and live in love, not hate, fear, anger or despair. We can use our helplessness in ways of spreading love and kindness, being charitable, and never taking one moment of life for granted. Celebrate it every day in any way. Savor the laughter. Endure the trials. Learn and grow and love deeply.

It is due time for people to put politics, race, gender, religion, social status, financial differences, physical differences aside and fill our souls with compassion, acceptance, tolerance, understanding, love and kindness. Sometimes we get angry. Sometimes we get sad. Sometimes we get hurt. But we have to use those moments as life lessons to move on in a positive way instead of seeking revenge and ways to inflict pain, be it emotional or physical, on others. We have to be accountable for ourselves. We have to talk about mental illness not shut the door on it. It’s real. Very real. Use your life, your precious life, to do good, not just in the wake of tragedy, but every day thereafter. Choose happy. Choose love.
